Neighbourhood
Situated just opposite Stepney Green Tube station with access to Hammersmith and District lines, which will provide you with easy access to London's iconic landmarks and most of London's airports.
This area is full of stores, cafes and restaurants and in case you want to spend your evening in one of the numerous pubs, bars or restaurants offering various cuisines we would like to suggest our favourite local ones:
Efes is a simple Turkish restaurant with delicious food/ takeaway just next to our block. Di Stefano, a new little Italian coffee shop almost opposite the flat, for proper coffee. We would also recommend some of our local pubs in the area like the Horn of Plenty, just over the road, or, slightly further afield, go two stops on the tube to Aldgate East station and the nearby Culpepper ale bar and restaurant. In the summer they open up their lovely little roof terrace where they grow all their own veg and you can sit and have drinks up there.
Some other great places to discover are Spitalfields Market (two stops on the tube to Aldgate East with its fantastic traders selling everything you could imagine, made by hand, and food stalls representing all nations, from an Indian chai shop to Korean and Ethiopian. It is also lined with boutiques, restaurants, wine shops and wine bars, like Wright Brothers Seafood Restaurant & Cocktail Bar and Vagabond Wines. There are lots of famous old East End pubs nearby - The Ten Bells and The Ship Inn are closest, opposite the market.
For a piece of history, near Spitalfields, there is Dennis Severs House - one of our favourite London experiences. A sort of living museum, it is an old Georgian townhouse that has been preserved exactly as it was during the 1700s and 1800s, with clever sound installations to really evoke the age. It is not open every day, though there is no need to book, you can just turn up and pay on the door. It is unusual and special.
Try not to miss Victoria Park - London's oldest Royal public park, created by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and a haven for being in nature, walking, running, yoga, picnics - anything really. There is a climbing wall on the way there (Mile End Climbing Wall, by the canal). There is a lovely cafe on the lake in the park called the Pavillion Cafe, which serves delicious breakfasts, brunches and coffee all day. They serve a really good Sri Lankan breakfast, as well as selling fresh bread and pastries. It's a great place to sit and watch the world go by. There is an artisan food market at the park every Sunday morning:
Last but not least, Genesis Cinema - our local independent cinema, a five minute walk down Mile End Road towards Whitechapel. It has consistently been voted best independent cinema in London. It has a bar, serves food, has multiple screens and interesting events.
This property will provide you with a good start to discover all of London's main attractions with its unique location.
